Project Overview
We recently completed an 11,000sqft refurbishment at the Headquarters of English Heritage, in Swindon.
The Engine House, on Firefly Avenue, was home to ‘Firefly’-class locomotives, capable of holding 36 engines.
The building dates from the 1840’s and was formerly the drawing offices of the Great Western Railway. The lines from London to Bristol and Cheltenham diverge at this point.
The Engine House, aptly home to the National operation of English Heritage, is a beautiful building with so much character.
Working with our client, we designed and created a modern and agile workplace for the English Heritage team. We wanted to be mindful of the beautiful building and it’s heritage, hence we used soft furnishings and a subtle colour palette, so the interior would not detract from the beautiful features of the building.
The refurbished demise offers agile work settings, multi-purpose rooms separate to the open plan and a dynamic open plan environment for hybrid working. A new overhaul with focus on morale and wellbeing, aims to entice the team to the workplace.
